What I Do
I do a few different things, check it out.
I play upright, electric, and synth bass. I get to play a lot of different music with lots of different people. It's pretty great.
Some people I've played with include Loa Greyson, Tommy Walker, Ethan Bortnick, Teryn Ré Big Band, Quadron, The Angeles Chorale, Ry Bradley, AMFM, Faith Shaw, Scott Ryan, Jen Oikawa Trio, Valley Worship, Sara Lindsay, and The Los Angeles Collaboration.
I've gotten to play music in Italy, Germany, South Korea, Austria, Canada, Switzerland, Russia and all over the United States.
I teach private lessons individually and as an adjunct teacher at Citrus College. I've also taught at multiple summer music camps, and have run multiple camps with some other excellent musicians.
Making a living as professional musician is a tricky thing. It's something that people with "regular" jobs don't understand. It's difficult, but by no means impossible. Over at Startup Musician I write about life as a freelance musician and try to be as specific and helpful as possible. If you're trying to launch or grow your career as a professional musician, check out my ebook This Is How We Do It (it's free!).
In addition to my own site, I've had articles featured on sites such as Digital Music News, Mac Daily News, and Cult of Mac.
I interview professional musicians doing interesting things in music. On the podcast, guests share their stories, experiences, and advice from playing with artists such as Mariah Carey, Passion Pit, Eric Hutchinson, Allen Stone, Aloe Blacc, as well as everything from indie bands to teaching privately.
I'm in a band with my wife. She's a great songwriter with a beautiful voice, and plays the ukulele and piano. I play upright bass, and my brother plays drums. Our music is kind of indie-pop folk. That makes sense right? Cool.
We put new music out all the time, so check in and see what our latest is. You can check us out on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and pretty much every streaming music service. We also blog about the stuff we're doing on, whether that's writing, recording, playing a show, cooking, drinking, or generally creating or consuming.
Beards on Everything
I have another podcast with Ahsohn Williams. We're both big dudes with beards. We talk about various topics, make jokes, go on tangents, get back on topic, make more jokes, and occasionally get pretty deep. Basically, we take something you love and put a beard on it.
